As North West Neuro Physio I am a Physiotherapist with over 22 years of experience in complex Neurological Rehabilitation across a broad spectrum of conditions including Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's Disease and Head Injury.

I am Bobath trained and State and Chartered Society Of Physiotherapy(CSP) registered.

I provide a home rehabilitation physiotherapy service.

I feel that providing physiotherapy in clients homes, and being involved with their relatives and carers, is invaluable in identifying their difficulties and developing a supportive relationship throughout their Rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation is about enabling a person to achieve their optimum potential of physical well being, whether that be improved mobility/functional activity, improved posture and comfort or improved ease of handling by carers.

Rehabilitation involves developing a clients own insight into their condition, how this is affecting their movement patterns and how they can have some control over maintaining their physical status as far as possible.

Two people with the same neurological condition will have unique and individual difficulties and so treatment is specific to their own needs and centred around their individual goals and aspirations.

Optimum level for clients is limited to some degree by their condition but compensatory movement strategies have usually developed which can ultimately result in severe stiffness and add to their disability. Even longstanding postures and compensatory movement strategies can be positively influenced.

Rehabilitation would begin with an Initial Assessment. The Initial Assessment is very thorough to fully explore and gain an insight into a clients problems and the impact this has on their daily life. Clients are often ‘managing’ and therefore do not realise that their life and abilities could be enhanced by them gaining an insight into the most efficient movement patterns and postures for them and achieving their most optimum  level through therapy.

Rehabilitation could involve a few sessions of therapy, advice, referral to other agencies re assessment/provision of equipment and exercise programmes where appropriate, or could involve more ongoing treatment and maintenance.

Experience gained through having worked as part of an Interdisciplinary Team with Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Nursing colleagues throughout this time, has been invaluable in enhancing my holistic and functional approach to rehabilitation.
